Maintaining Data Integrity Through HRIS Implementation

What Is Data Integrity?

In every part of business, data integrity is crucial, especially when it comes to human resources. Employee compensation, performance reviews, training and development, productivity tracking, the company's reputation, the bottom line, and productivity can all be impacted by inaccurate or inconsistent HR data (White, 2019).

Data integrity is an important part of information security. "Data integrity" refers to the accuracy and consistency of data recorded in a database, data warehouse, data mart, or other structure. Data integrity is critical because it ensures and secures your data's search ability and traceability back to its original source. When you ensure good data correctness and data safety, data performance and stability improve as well. Maintaining the integrity of data and guaranteeing its completeness are critical (Nouri, 2018).

What are the threads to Data Integrity ?

There are several ways the integrity of your data can be compromised. These threats can include:

  • Human error
  • Transfer errors from one device or system to another
  • Bugs / Malware / Viruses
  • Cyberattacks
  • Hacking
  • Hardware failures

HRIS Can Help You Overcome Data Integrity Issues

Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is an acronym for Human Resources Information System. The HRIS is a data collection and storage system for an organization's personnel. In most cases, an HRIS includes all of the essential features required for end-to-end HR management (HRM). It's a system that handles everything from hiring to performance management to learning and development. It can either run on the company’s own technical infrastructure or cloud-based.

HR systems preserve data integrity. Employees and company leaders need reliable, accurate data in HR systems, and they also need to have the assurance that employee and other company data is protected and kept private.

Here are some key factors HR and IT professionals consider when it comes to data integrity in HR systems (Stuart, 2017).

1. Providing accurate historical data - for helping company leaders plan for future growth, reorganization, or other changes that affect the workforce.

2. Providing different access levels to data (Public & private)

3. Self Service - allow employees to update personal data and search for important information across the company
